Kwelan was born out of a simple yet powerful observation: too many vehicles were sitting idle in driveways, while too many people were struggling to access affordable, reliable transportation.
As founders living and working in Zambia, we saw firsthand how challenging it was for locals to rent a car without high costs, complex paperwork, or limited availability. At the same time, we knew people who owned vehicles they barely used—yet were still burdened by insurance, maintenance, and fuel expenses. The gap was clear, and the opportunity was real.
What if we could connect those who needed cars with those who had them?
What if we could turn a depreciating asset into a profitable business?
What if, through technology, we could empower everyday people to become entrepreneurs?
From these questions, Kwelan was created—a peer-to-peer car-sharing platform designed specifically for the African market. With no large fleet of our own and no traditional rental office, we built Kwelan to be lean, local, and scalable—allowing individuals to list their vehicles and earn income, while renters enjoy flexibility, affordability, and peace of mind.
We started small, operating from home, learning directly from our users, and refining the platform based on real-world feedback. Over time, we’ve grown into a community of local car owners, travelers, professionals, and families, all connected through a shared belief in ownership, access, and opportunity.
Today, Kwelan stands as Zambia’s first peer-to-peer car-sharing platform, and we’re only getting started. Our ambition is to become Africa’s leading mobility marketplace, not just by moving people—but by moving lives, communities, and economies forward.
This isn’t just about transport.
It’s about ownership, inclusion, empowerment—and building something by us, for us.
This is our story. And it’s only the beginning.
At Kwelan, we are on a mission to transform the way Africa moves by unlocking the power of shared mobility—one car, one entrepreneur, and one community at a time.
We believe that mobility should be more than just a service—it should be a gateway to economic opportunity, inclusion, and empowerment. That’s why we’ve built a digital platform that allows everyday individuals to list their vehicles and earn income by renting them out, creating a low-barrier pathway into entrepreneurship.
Kwelan exists to bridge the gap between underutilized vehicles and the growing demand for flexible, affordable, and reliable transport. Whether you’re a tourist visiting Zambia, a young professional navigating the city, or a car owner looking to turn your asset into a business, our platform is designed to serve you with safety, convenience, and transparency.
Our model is rooted in the realities of African cities—where access to vehicles is limited for many, and traditional car rental systems remain expensive and exclusive. By using technology to connect people to one another, we’re not just changing how people get around—we’re building a community-driven mobility network that empowers individuals, boosts local economies, and creates long-term value.
We’re proud to be Zambia’s first peer-to-peer car-sharing platform, and our vision is to scale across Africa, creating a new era of mobility that is inclusive, sustainable, and owned by the people.
At Kwelan, mobility is not just about getting from point A to B—it’s about moving lives forwar
